We have to remember that Larry never really looked realistic.
Only the babes do, from LSL 1 to 6.

Also, Larry 7 was one of the more explicit episode of the series.
Like jfrisby said, maybe the cartoon style allowed to do this.

I've always loved the cartoon style. This is a tongue in cheek game. Going too realistic on the art is creepy.

Larry 3 is my favorite, so I wouldn't mind a return to that style. I don't terribly mind the later style either, though.

I think the cartoony art style works really well. The exageration of Larry's features compared to the other characters really helps define his character.

Hi!
Oran from Adventure Mob here.
I would like to share with you my artistic vision of LSL1Reloaded.
First of all I would like to assure you that everything you've seen is not yet final as this is only a 1-room proof of concept.
Our primary goal as developers was to share our artistic vision of the new Larry game. We did it with an almost non-existent budget and in really short time.
So of course some small things are still not sitting as well as we wanted, but the overall atmosphere and feel are there and we consider this a big success!

As we worked to create Lefty's exterior, we took ourselves the liberty to create some minor changes (like the parking meter for example) which we thought they'll give the game a fresh vibe.
Image
When we'll start production, all of these changes will be created/modified/monitored by Al and I bet they'll flavor the game and set him apart from its previous versions.

Regarding Larry himself.
Well, I'm a big fan of Leisure Suit Larry 7: Love for Sail, and I freely admit that it was my primary research lane. But there were other facts that got me to the conclusion to actually create Larry the way we made him:
1. Larry 7 was the most well received game in the Leisure Suit Larry series, mostly because of its art.
2. Being the last in the series (not including the 3d versions of course), it's only natural we'll want to evolve our own Larry from there.
3. Using a cartoony Larry will enable us to create more radical and funny animations.
4. Did I tell you I was a big fan?
So anyway, our Larry has some distinct changes - We wanted him to reflect the personality he had in "The Land of The Lounge Lizards" so this Larry is a bit younger than his "Love for Sail" counterpart. He still haven't gone through the 6 games so he is more confident, a bit more sleazy and he actually believe he's hot. We'll break him as the series develops

We plan to improve the art as much as possible. The quality of the animations and the overall production value will depend of course on the amount of money that will be invested in the development process.
Regardless, let me assure you - Nothing in LSLReloaded will feel a amateurish...

I'm surprised that people aren't happy with the character design. I think Larry (and the background art) looks perfect. Well done!

Cartoonishness doesn't bother me, but his nose looking like a penis does. Still, maybe it's a matter of taste and ugly phallic noses are just what the game needs. ;)

Hi Oran,

Thank you very much for the reply.
I like your vision of the Lefty's exteriror. Great work !

On the other hand, I would have prefered something like this for Larry.
I think it works better, but eh... it's a matter of taste ;)

So this will not be in the final version, right ?
